We’re currently in a bit of a battle with our property complex, BTW’s business and living space has had an issue with the AC since we moved in. There is a very real noise coming from the system that’s spreading through the vent into the entire apartment. It sounds the equivalent to screeching brakes or a whistling tea kettle, with variations in frequency, volume, and pressure that are changing whether the AC system is on or off. Needless to say it is causing problems with health, sleep, work, and the ability to pay bills and rent. It is also causing the development of Hyperacusis in a normal and healthy person who’s trained their ears to make and produce music. At this point there’s a cat here that it’s clearly affecting as well.

I tried to give it a month or two to sort itself out, it didn’t. I then put in a work order after sending a message to the property saying it might be hard to find the source of the noise. That work order was ignored until I physically walked in and asked about it, after waiting a month for them to do something. Someone showed up here only after that, proceeded to check out the system, called in a co-worker because the sound was out of his hearing range  who explained the possible reasons it was happening, then scheduled it to be fixed after the weekend, because I said I didn’t mind waiting another couple of days. It’s now 3 weeks later of me trying to hunt this guy down and a couple of days ago my work order was marked as completed without being worked on. I’ve had to go into the office multiple times, email the property staff, and call them directly in order to get a simple response/update.

This is while I’m getting letters slipped under my door with the name of one of the families who’s obviously been harassing us for the past 4+ years.

At this point the maintenance staff stated it’s not as important as fixing people’s ACs that are completely broken, which wouldn’t have been the case if they had fixed it in an timely manner. I’m now still waiting for a scheduled time for them to show up, and while that’s happening I’ll be communicating with Arizona Tenants Advocates in order to get even more information about my rights and likely end up breaking this lease on the grounds of not upholding maintenance to the detriment to their tenants health.

This is a new sound I’ve noticed it’s making when the system is off, not boosted or anything. These sounds alone indicate the system is not functioning correctly, let alone the days of recordings I have and are continuing to collect as evidence.

One of the things we’ll never forget from this experience is the very apparent pleasure the system and people behind it get from tormenting or causing pain to others, as it indicates emotional imbalances and deep seated mental issues that we’d be foolish to ignore.
